The
property shop, located in Kamala, Phuket, opened in November. Further
branches in Phuket, Ko Samui, Hua Hin, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and other
resort destinations are planned for early next year, says the company,
adding that it will also award a very limited number of licenses to
operate the property shop concept and system in Bangkok in early 2006.
“This
is a unique opportunity and we plan to award some exclusive licenses to
qualified and highly motivated individuals for some of the prime
locations in Bangkok,” says Martin Phillips, managing director of Engel
& Völkers (Thailand) Limited. Engel & Völkers currently
operates around 170 offices worldwide with a new shop opening on
average nearly every 10 days, says the company. In most parts of Europe
and South Africa, the company is affiliated with Christie’s Great
Estates. Phillips says the branch in Phuket will focus on the premium
expatriate second home sector, which is gaining in popularity as more
expatriates and retirees recognise the lifestyle benefits, excellent
infrastructure and healthcare facilities that Thailand has to offer.
"We
expect that the majority of interest will come from UK, German and
Scandinavian buyers, interested in acquiring a holiday home in Phuket.
These are markets into which we can provide a strong sales and
marketing advantage,” says Phillips. The opening of the first operation
in Singapore is anticipated for the early first quarter of 2006,
Phillips says.
